blues on the beach

sometimes in life coincidence is so beautifully poetic and wonderfully tragic--almost always appearing at a time when, in hindsight, it absolutely must manifest itself. living in a paradise so rich with postcard beauty it's easy to overlook what is most meaningful. balance is hard to achieve when the scales are inexorably tipped in favor of pain.

the tragic beauty is the precise moment when it all tumbles, that's most often when clarity is found. the price...everything meaningful and real...comforting and benevolent. what saves the whole fucking mess is hope...that it's not too late to salvage love...and faith that it was meant to be.

blah blah blah...prescription drug comparisons are depressing, so....

not that anyone's watching this, but i hate updates to layout technologies like this. i'm horrible at matching colors. oh well.

so, i'm actually taking the song i've been writing and starting production on a proper album. just for me. i've been lucky enough to have a couple amazing friends that are helping me arrange...produce...create...i'm excited to see what happens.

Just for the record, I had a pretty bad bout with acid reflux myself. guess what cured it. i changed my diet. wow. that was hard.

Check it:

Why???

I've had a bit of time to actually think about all the prescription drugs, their commercials, and their devastation to the human race. I'm going to post comparisons to actually weathered the storm of the original malady. Week 1:

Comparison #1: Hay Fever vs. Claritin Oral.

Hay Fever Yeah, the runny nose and sneezing suck. The bleary eyes and congestion irritate the shit out me...but...check out what lovely diversions Clearitin offer to keep your mind occupied as the drug companies upgrade their corporate jets...

Side effects of Claritin Oral:

Blood Disorder
Nightmares
Blurred Vision
Problems with Eyesight
Ringing in the Ears
Dryness of the Nose
An Increase in the Thickness of Lung Secretions
Dry Mouth

* keep in mind absolutely not a doctor--nor do i play one on tv. i just am so f**king tired of prescription drug commercials. Grrrrr!

spring has sprung

yay! my second spring in the bay. it just kinda gets around 3 degrees cooler and a little wetter, but it's still a change of season. i'm finishing up 2 or 3 songs and hope to post em in the next couple weeks.

go Pen's!

Super bowl, man.

it's that time of year again...time for the Steelers to play in another superbowl. i'm not a huge football fan, but growing up in 'da burgh' you are taught to love the Steelers right out of the womb.

go Steelers!

other than that, i'm completely bored and uninspired with new music again. i keep thinking i'll find that gem among the hordes of mediocre offerings i've wasting time with. not even any new releases from tried and true artists, except Cee-Lo and a local band out here called The Stone Foxes. Great blues rock. anyone hear anything good?

Ahhh...Autumn

best. season. ever.

i love it. less sun, cooler temp's (except here in San Francisco until november, apparently), and--of course--a new Penguins' season. i've always been more creative this time of year. don't know why. don't care to guess, either.

happy halloween, everyone.

Dinosaur

recently, i've been playing around with some new songs that i wrote. back when i was still in the mtv demographic, this meant you either spent the rent money on studio time or whipped out the handy-dandy tascam 8 track. both were inconvenient, but those were the choices available. now, however, all you need is a laptop, acoustic guitar, and microphone--leave the rest up to a bunch of 1's and 0's.

i'm not bitter, i happen to enjoy the ability to roll off the couch and build a song lickity-split. problem is, now EVERYONE is a fucking musician/rock star. i'm not claiming to be lennon, mccartney, page, or plant, but the refinement an arrangement went through by the time it was finished is an element--as well as a discipline--that few of these whipper-snappers understand.

does it make me feel old? nah, i'm comfortable with my age. i guess my point is: when the art is this accessible the gems seem a little less luminescent. everyone deserves to express themselves, but do they need to completely saturate the airwaves (um, i mean the ether). maybe napster hammered down the nails in music's coffin, but i'll wager that the abundance of home recorded rock stars account for a good share of music's demise, dulling our collective senses with unrefined, and at times self-indulgent, songwriting/production along the way.

i guess i am just a grumpy old man.

a-hem...with that being said, i'm starting to post rough mixes of a few songs on a few of the multitude of 'social' music sites. wow, what a hypocrite. :)

Is it time? Allrighty then...

To rescue my crippled mouse hand from Bejeweled, Spades, and Facebook, I've decided to give typing a whirl. I'm not much on the written word. I prefer music as my medium of choice, maybe photo's. Very efficient, photos...as compared to words. Every time I try to write something I think it either sounds dumb, contrived, or too pretentious and aloof. See--I'm think that right now, in fact.

Let's try this:

ok. ahhhh, dressed down. casual. i don't use capital letters most of the time. it makes me comfortable.

i'm going to write about music. mostly what i've decided is worth listening to because my memory is shrinking. fast. maybe i'll post a few pic's, maybe not. maybe i'll even put up some of my music--whatever.

sometimes i still find music worth my adhd time. not much. the cycle has been driven into the ground. it has become unraveled and now is almost completely one dimensional. however, i am like a junky for that spark--the rare find: music that doesn't suck ass. nowadays, though, most of my fix comes from finding new tunes for my girl. turns out i'm pretty good at knowing what people will like before they do.

for example:

Lord Newborn and the Magic Skulls
Janelle MonĂ¡e
...and a TON of rare 70's and 80's funk grooves

check them out if you dig soul, r&b, and obviously funk.

as for me, i still haven't found what i'm looking for.

later.

Welcome, my friends, to the show that never ends...

Why anyone would want to waste their time looking and listening to me and my moronic site is beyond me. Besides the mighty Facebook, there's still tons of good free porn to be discovered out there on da internet.
